Description

POSITION:   Project Scientist, Engineer or Geologist II - Site Mitigation

LOCATION:  New Jersey / Greater NYC area

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

AEI Consultants is currently seeking a mid-to-senior level Scientist, Engineer or Geologist to join our expanding Site Mitigation division. We are seeking a professional addition to our team to provide project management oversight and leadership on environmental projects, design and implement subsurface investigation activities, mentor junior staff, prepare investigation reports, advocate for our clients with regulatory agencies, and support AEI’s growth and activities.

 

In this role, you will help manage projects for AEI’s NY/NJ office, co-lead overall technical operations for AEI’s eastern region, and mentor technical staff.  Responsibilities will also include developing project scope, schedule and budgets for various projects, including field work and travel, as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·     Performs and manages environmental due diligence investigations (Phase II assessments), site characterization, mitigation and remediation projects

·         Provides mentorship and technical leadership within regional team

·         Responsible for field work (approximately 20%) and high-quality technical report writing and review, including interpretation of data and applicable regulatory criteria, and strategic understanding of required next steps

·         Leads projects and serves in a mid-to-senior technical role on moderate to complex and mid to high budget projects

·         Prepares and manages project budgets

·         Responsible for team proposals and cost estimate preparation

·         Project management of ASTM Phase II investigations and complex regulatory investigation/remediation projects 

·         Responsible for scope of work and proposal preparation

·         Maintains or exceeds applicable utilization goals

·         Maintains relationships with regulatory agencies and ability to perform as a strong client advocate

·         Obtains and adheres to the Company required Health and Safety Training Program and Practices



Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

·    Experience as task manager on remediation projects and/or managing team of technical staff

·   Experience (approximately 10-15 years) with environmental due diligence (Phase I and Phase II assessments), and complex contaminated site investigation and remediation

·  Experience with civil/environmental design, including remediation of soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion/radon mitigation. Brownfields redevelopment experience a plus

·    Soil, groundwater, and soil vapor investigations, including well installation, logging and sampling techniques

·    Practical experience or relevant knowledge of NY/NJ/CT/PA/MD and Federal environmental laws and regulations

·  Working experience with NJDEP Site Remediation Program (SRP) and proficiency preparing related deliverables (PA/SI, RI, RAWP, RAR, RA Permits)

  •       Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong business acume
  •       Flexibility to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor and project manager; willingness and ability  to perform a wide range of project tasks, as necessary (i.e., client management, cost estimating, business   development support, field work, report writing and review, etc.); and ability to think critically through a project from  conception to completion
  •     A self-starter, resourceful, with an attention to detail and the ability to work productively and independently on multiple projects under strict deadlines

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Familiarity with NJDEP SRRA forms, EDDs, and related documents

·   Proficient in AutoCAD

 EDUCATION

 ·         Bachelor’s Degree or higher in civil or environmental engineering / geological, or similar field required

 LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

·    Active Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license strongly preferred

·    NJDEP UST Closure/Subsurface Evaluator a plus


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work environment may be both indoors and outdoors. Indoor work takes place in a typical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Outdoor work requires the ability to effectively perform work in all types of weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, type, handle office and/or field equipment, speak and hear. The employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, balance, kneel or crouch. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.
