The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. For more information about MTC, visit www.mtc.ca.gov.
MTC's Design and Project Delivery (DPD) Section is responsible for the development and delivery of innovative transportation strategies that improves the performance of the region's freeway, bridge, arterial, and transit systems, with an emphasis on operational efficiencies and demand management/high vehicle occupancy strategies.
The Assistant Transportation Engineer - Bikeshare position will be filled at the Assistant level and is under the supervision and direction of the Principal Transportation Engineer, Design and Project Delivery/New Mobility. The person in this position will work with the DPD Section to support contract management of the Bay Area Bike Share program's operations. The individual will oversee the fiscal oversight of the program, the strategic planning for growth of the system; management and adherence of existing contracts; and pursue opportunities to grow and integrate bikeshare into the Bay Area's multimodal transportation system.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Knowledge and expertise of Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, GIS
Experience with graphics and visualization is a plus
Excellent technical writing and public speaking skills
Ability to manage tasks/projects
Ability to work within a team environment
Solid interpersonal skills to interact with internal staff, partner transportation agencies and stakeholders
Entrepreneurial spirit to enhance Bay Area transportation, with a focus on micromobility, transit, and transportation demand management
Knowledge of the shared micromobility industry including current programs and business models
A strong desire to learn
An appropriate combination of education and experience that has provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is:
Education: A Bachelor's degree, from an accredited college or university, in an appropriate field related to the area of assignment, such as transportation planning, project management, public finance, transportation engineering, economics, business or public administration. A Master's degree is preferred. (Applicants with a degree issued from an institution outside the United States must have their transcripts evaluated by an academic accrediting service and provide proof of equivalency along with their application.)
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in an appropriate field related to the area of assignment. Preference will be given to applicants with additional professional work experience.
License/Certificate Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternate transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision and direction of the Principal Transportation Engineer, Design and Project Delivery/New Mobility, specific assignments and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Management of MTC Bikeshare Contract
Coordinate with partner cities
Manage contract terms and amendments
Monitor Key Performance Indicators
