The Mechanical Engineer is expected to have sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, fundamental understanding of materials and process development, and the ability to apply these to solving problems and innovating new solutions.
Proficiency in Solidworks 3D CAD tools for the concept design, detailed design and drawings of components and mechanical assemblies including sheet metal, machined parts and formed components
Analysis and verification of preliminary and detail design with hand calculations
Familiarity with FEA for analysis and design of systems to model static, dynamic, and thermal loads is preferred
Validating designs and computational models with hands on experiments & testing
Create, maintain and release component technical specifications
Detailed knowledge of relevant manufacturing techniques including the use of steel, aluminum and plastics
Create and maintain technical drawing packages of components and systems, including BOM
Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning
Familiar with FMEA as a tool to optimize design
Ability to produce working prototypes and one-off fixtures with precision and accuracy
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years’ experience - solid modeling experience with Solidworks, I-Deas, Unigraphics, Pro-Engineer, or CATIA
Previous experience working on cross functional engineering programs preferred
Thermal/structural FEA experience is a plus
Experience in a machine shop setting and working with mills and/or lathe a big plus
Candidates with depth of knowledge and experience designing products using plastics highly desired
