Works under limited supervision providing skilled technical work on construction projects outside the office by monitoring, inspecting and documenting contracted work utilizing GPS data collectors.
Works inside the office reviewing construction material submittals and creating as-built construction documents using computer aid design and mapping software, under limited supervision.

Associate’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management or similar field of study, or equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum six to eight years’ experience in Civil Engineering on site construction inspection.
Proficient in using survey data collectors such as Leica GPS Data Collectors.
Proficient in Computer Aided Design/Drafting and Autodesk products such as Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
Experience with ESRI and/or GIS Software preferred.
MDOT FieldManager Office Technician certification or ability to obtain within 12 months from placement into position.
Storm water construction certification or ability to obtain within 12 months from placement into position.
MDOT Concrete Technician certification or ability to obtain within 12 months from placement into position
HMA paving operations certification or ability to obtain within 12 months from placement into position.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and its software.
Good mathematical background (algebra, geometry, trigonometry) in both English and metric measures
Must possess good effective oral and written communication skills
Experience with MDOT computer programs and record keeping system preferred: Michigan Engineers Resource Library (MERL); Roadsoft/GIS; FieldManager
Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license.
Must be able to lift concrete test cylinders weighing 30-40 pounds.
Willing to work outdoors a minimum of fifty percent of the year, not limited to warm weather months.
