The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) is engaged in updating regional and local plans for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the Sacramento region, including ways to support new technologies such as connected and autonomous vehicles, and methods for better communicating transportation information to the region's residents and visitors, and traffic information to/from the region's traffic managers. SACOG manages the region's 511/STARNET system, which serves as the current hub for regional traffic and travel data and information. SACOG also convenes an ITS Partnership of local agency staff who work on ITS for information-sharing and collaboration.
SACOG is seeking an outgoing, tech-savvy student, interested in research and analysis, for an approximately one year paid Internship to assist with its ITS work. All applicants are required to be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level program at a college or university. Hours are flexible, and may be up to 15-25 hours per week. Salary is based on number of units completed and any prior work experience.

Examples of Typical Job Functions
Research emerging information technologies and apps that could help support and improve the region's traffic/travel information
Help with administration of the ITS and STARNET/511 program. (e.g., support with organizing and maintaining program files, tracking invoices, etc.)
Assist with tracking of major events that could impact travel in the region, and help train local governments in the region on providing event information for traveler alerts
Attend internal and external meetings, provide help with organizing meetings as needed

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver's license is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

About Sacramento Area Council of Governments
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) is public agency (Joint Powers Authority). SACOG is a voluntary association of local governments formed by six counties, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba, and twenty-two cities within those counties.
SACOG is governed by a Board of Directors composed of County Supervisors and City Council Members appointed by the member jurisdictions. The Board is advised by several policy and technical committees. A full-time staff is employed to implement SACOG policies and work programs, and to coordinate the efforts of consultants who are retained to augment the staff's efforts.
