Research Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.: 201801004)
Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, to commence on September 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis.
The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the five engineering departments in the Faculty of Engineering. The Department has a world class reputation for leading research and teaching in civil engineering, and has nurtured high-calibre leaders for the community as well as the civil engineering profession. The Department was ranked 11th in the world under the QS University Subject Rankings 2018 in the subject area of civil and structural engineering. The Department is active in research in construction management and transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and water and environmental engineering. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field. He/She should have a background in research on Wastewater Treatment, Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Materials, or other relevant areas. He/She should have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and the ability to work independently and in collaboration with members in a multidisciplinary team. Relevant post-doctoral work experience in research on Wastewater Treatment, Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Materials, or other relevant areas, and publication track record are required.
The appointee would be expected to teach Environmental Engineering and other civil engineering subjects; to co-ordinate tutorial classes and to supervise student projects. He/She will also be required to take up various administrative duties. The appointee may also be invited to help in Project Mingde, our experiential learning project. Tasks include managing the projects in the Mainland and in Asia; organizing and supervising students for the project design and development, and accompanying students in field trips for site supervision. A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave and medical benefits.
