VDOT Salem District is seeking a Land Development Engineer. This professional will be based in the Bedford Residency office to assist in coordinating and managing land development, estimating, and preliminary engineering elements for the secondary six-year plan and construction project development for rural rustic / revenue sharing projects. Will work closely with County and District staff; direct personnel and activities necessary to complete incidental construction projects. Will provide support of maintenance operations by applying engineering principles, monitoring, and preparing documents and sketches as needed; land development review, assist in activities surrounding land use planning and negotiations on land development projects, and assist in the administration of land use permit program.

Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to resolve technical issues. Ability to develop and manage multiple projects, budgets, and resources. Ability to interpret and apply Federal and State regulations; resolve consumer complaints; handle multiple assignments and work with minimal supervision in a fast paced work environment. Ability to estimate projects with varying levels of information. Possess strong communication, negotiation and customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate effectively with diverse groups of agency staff, as well as local government officials and staff. Experience with engineering related software. A valid drivers License is required.
