SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE - University Degree in a relevant discipline such as Track, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering combined with directly related track engineering experience
- Registration in good standing with Professional Engineers of Ontario is mandatory
- Knowledge of civil, mechanical and industrial engineering disciplines is required. Strong interest in other engineering disciplines, and motivation to collaborate in multidisciplinary engineering environment
- Requires excellent and proven knowledge of track engineering principles, standards, methods, and practices, combined with a comprehensive knowledge of track systems and rail operations requirements, material and components as related to subway operations, and the design and maintenance of subway track
- Understanding of project planning/management concepts and practices combined with a good working knowledge of current scheduling and expenditure systems is necessary
- Demonstrated experience in conceptual planning, detailed design, quality assurance & inspection
- Must be knowledgeable in application and use of AREMA, APTA, FRA, ASTM, CSA and Occupational Health & Safety Act, environmental legislation, etc. Sound knowledge of applicable provincial and national codes and regulations, and relevant legislation and standards
- Must be proficient in the use of PC based operating and integrated office programs, including windows, communications (email), scheduling, word processing (MSWord), spreadsheet (Excel) programs
- Must be able to use CAD at professional level to do design, drawing reviews. Must be highly familiar with dimensioning and drafting practices in civil and mechanical drawings
- The incumbent must possess demonstrated management, organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills
- Highly developed analytical, problem solving and technical design skills are necessary
- A proven ability to plan, allocate and manage resources within budget and schedule constraints, in a multi-project environment. Ability to direct, supervise, motivate and evaluate line reporting professional staff and project specific staff reporting through a matrix organization. Demonstrated ability to manage and work with multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to prepare and interpret complex reports, recognize problems and evaluate solutions
- Good understanding of business administration, fiscal and human resources principles and policies, as well as familiarity with legislation/regulations regarding safety etc.
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
